VIDEO: China's Hands-Free Drone
America may have pioneered drone technologies, but China is pushing the limits beyond anything we have imagined outside of science fiction.
Researchers at Zhejiang University built a platform called Flybuddy2. The small drones need no conventional controls and operate on thought alone. The state-of-the-art technology is all within the software. The only hardware you need is an Electroencephalogram (EEG) headset, a Bluetooth connection to a laptop and the drone itself.
By mapping individual brain patterns, the system interprets and transmits basic controls. The model on display in the following video can even take a picture when the operator blinks.
While this demonstration video showcases a simple civilian application, it also pits the mind-controlled drone against a conventional hand-operated remote controlled drone. With how well the new technology performs, the military applications are obvious and dire.
