Forbes' Freedom Manifesto

Posted by - Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Steve Forbes, third-generation publisher and past presidential candidate, has an axe to grind with Americans. His new book's title explains it all, Freedom Manifesto: Why Free Markets Are Moral and Big Government Isn't.

In the book, Forbes argues that government is anything but a force for compassion. While many people claim governments promote fairness and opportunity, it is a hotbed of cronyism and ultimately stifles economic growth.

Forbes provided a brief interview through his web site in which he elaborates on why he was compelled to write the book:

The message is, it's about where this country is going to go. Are we going to have an era of limited government and opportunity for entrepreneurs? Or are we going to have a government dominated economy such as you have in western Europe?”

Government, even though people acknowledge it is bloated and inefficient, government is always seen as, “Well they are there to help people'. What this book does is turn that on its head. It's free markets with sensible rules of the road that are moral because you only succeed if you meet the needs and wants of the people.”

Take a look at this video to see the full interview, including Forbes' take on how Apple, Solyndra and cell phones prove his point. If you're interested in Freedom Manifesto: Why Free Markets Are Moral and Big Government Isn't, Forbes is offering it through Amazon here.
