Ron Paul's Candid Late Night Interview

Posted by - Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Dr. Ron Paul, fresh from his speech before the Republican National Convention, shifted over to Los Angeles to talk to Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.

The two talked about his speech, the widely-publicized snub at the convention and where he will go from here.

Jay Leno asked a very pertinent question early in the interview: “Now your son, Senator Rand Paul, he spoke, was that to appease your supporters?”

Dr. Paul replied:

“I think so, I think they are aware of the fact that there are a lot of people, we had nearly 2 million votes in the primary, but I think we had 2 to 3 million people who did not want to particularly vote in the republican primaries, independents and democrats... that would be a good reason to really open up and get a bigger tent for us, so we can come in.”

The conversation turned to Romney's speech, his support from military families, his support of peace and how America does not need more war. Then came the big question, why not give a third party presidential campaign a shot?

“The system is very biased. We talk a lot about democracy, we send our troops overseas, we want to spread democracy. But democracy isn't all that healthy in this country because if you're in a third party, you don't get in the debates... but there is something about it. If you ever come to the conclusion, heavan forbid, that the two parties aren't all that different, what's left?”

Check out the full interview to hear his full interview, including an admirable take on of the influence of money and special interests in politics.
